Why Is My Tan Fading?
We all love that fresh tanned feeling you get from your fave self tan, but are you finding that your tan is fading too quickly? Take a look at our list of 5 suggestions as to why your tan may have faded and make sure you avoid this happening again.
1.You haven’t been moisturising daily. This the number one reason why tans fade faster is when your skin becomes too dry and the skin cells on the surface begin to flake off, taking your tan with them. Hydrating your skin with a rich moisturiser will slow down the skin’s natural regeneration process and help your tan last longer.
2. You went to the steam room/saunas. Although steaming your face and body is great for cleansing your skin, opening up your pores and removing blackheads it can also make your tan fade a little quicker.
3. You took long, frequent showers. Taking a long bath or shower will dehydrate your skin, causing your skin cells to flake away faster. This will soften the look of your tan, making it appear lighter. The solution is to bypass the bath for a few days, take quick showers and avoid using strong cleansers that can strip the skin of its new colour.
4. You used a harsh exfoliator. Step away from the exfoliator if you want your tan to stick around for a week. Exfoliating too much will again remove the top layer of cells on the surface of your skin and cause your tan to fade. However, if you want to promote a quick fade-off then exfoliator is your best friend.
5. You went swimming. Chlorine and water will break down a tan so it’s best to avoid long swimming sessions to help retain your golden colour especially when you’re on holiday. Moisturise after a quick dip in the pool to lock-in your colour a bit better.
Our number one tip for ensuring longer lasting deep color from your tan is to use a gradual tanning moisturiser every day after the application. This will keep your skin hydrated (the key to keeping your tan longer!) and will top up your color each day as the gradual tanning actives add a touch of tan each time.
