When To Beauty Prep Before Your Event

If you have a big event coming up, such as a wedding or a dinner event, you want to look your best. However, it’s important to note that prep work should start well in advance of the big day. Along with the fact that it’s stressful trying to cram waxing, tanning and facials in a day or two before an event, many treatments take time to work, and your skin may need time to recover to ensure you’re at your absolute best.

To help you look and feel your best, here’s a timeline that will help you look gorgeous with the minimum amount of stress and hassle.

Slough it Off
Dead and dry skin can make your skin look dull, and it can also increase your chances of breaking out. Microdermabrasion and chemical peels can reveal the soft, healthy skin beneath, but the downside is that you’ll need at least a few days for your skin to recover after these treatments. Similarly, it’s a good idea to have any facial waxing done at least a week in advance so that redness and swelling can go down.

Hair Care
It takes more than one night to turn dry and overworked hair into soft tresses that will make even Rapunzel envious. Experts recommend that you work on treatments starting at least two weeks in advance. Additionally, instead of relying on just one mask to work miracles, be conscious of what you’re putting in your hair and doing to it during the time leading up to an event.

Go Golden
Self-tanning is incredibly popular because it can even out your skin tone, make you appear slimmer and give you a lit from within look. However, if things go wrong, you could end up with a patchy tan or looking like an Oompa Loompa. Your best bet is to get a gradual tan, and there are a lot of good self-tanning lotions that will allow color to build up slowly. This will help avoid streaks and allow you to stop once you reach the level of sun-kissed perfection you’re looking for.

Lash Out
Unless you’re blessed with long, thick lashes, you’re probably looking at a big day involving false lashes or a ton of mascara. An alternative is to get lash extensions. Professionals can apply them quickly and easily, and they can last for weeks. However, not everyone can tolerate the glue or the extensions themselves, so try them out at least four weeks in advance. If your eyes don’t react well, you’ll have time to recover. Should you like the results, you can have them touched up a few days in advance if it’s necessary.

White Out
Unless you’re getting veneers, which cost thousands of dollars, your best options for teeth whitening are having a professional do it at a dentist’s office or using at home treatments. At home treatments are naturally the most affordable, but it takes between four and six weeks for you to see results. Along with a whitening regimen, be sure to stay away from food and drinks that can stain your teeth, like coffee and red wine.
