Tips for a Perfect Spray Tan

Shave your legs at least one day before your spray tan. If you get your eyebrows waxed or threaded, it should be done a few days before you tan. Use an exfoliating scrub prior to your sunless tanning appointment.

Limit the amount of time you spend shaving and exfoliating after your tanning appointment. Your spray tan will last much longer. Make sure you do not have any makeup, sunscreen, lotion or oil on your skin before your appointment. Remove your makeup prior to your appointment with wipes at the salon. It is okay to wear lipstick and mascara before your tan.

Make sure you wear a long sleeve shirt if it’s raining or if rain looks imminent. Leave your bra off after your spray tan to prevent staining. Sports bras are also not recommended since they tend to be too tight. You can stain your hands if you touch your skin before the tanning solution dries. Wash your hands with soap and water if this happens to you.

Your spray tan specialist will explain the process to you. Sleep with long sleeves shirts and pants to prevent the tan from transferring during the night time. This only applies the first night after your appointment.

How to Keep Your Spray Tan for Longer

There are steps you can take to increase the life of your spray tan. Use gentle cleaners when washing your face and body. Do not use strongly scented bath products. Moisturise your body twice each day to help your tan fade more evenly. Choose a moisturiser that has no harsh chemicals or scents. You can even use a daily moisturiser gradual tan that will keep your skin hydrated as well as working to top up the color. The average spray tan should last between four and eight days. Use body products that are free from alcohol to keep your skin hydrated.
