Newbie at Spray Tans? Fear Not!

If you’re new to the spray tanning world, never fear. Although the process may seem a little daunting at first, being smart and prepared can ensure a smooth, easy and pleasant experience for you regardless of whether you’re tanning at a salon or in the comforts of your own home with a product such as One Hour Express Tan from MineTan.

1. Be Wise When You Schedule Your Tanning Sessions

Tanning in the evening generally seems to be the wisest bet. If you do so in the evening, you have the whole night to look after your tan properly. Remember, you can’t get wet for anywhere between 6 and 8 hours post-tanning — this is when your colour is still developing. Evening tanning lets you wait for your tan to develop until you get the chance to shower in the morning. If you’re looking for minimal inconveniences to your schedule, evening tanning is the way to go.

2. Exfoliate Your Skin

Use a scrub to exfoliate the dead skin cells off your skin before you tan. Just make sure the scrub isn’t oil-based. Exfoliation the day prior to your tanning session is optimal, although it’s also OK to do so on the same day.

3. Dress Appropriately

Make your tanning experience as pleasant and hassle-free as can be by dressing appropriately afterward. Clothing that’s dark and loose is ideal. If your clothing is dark, you reduce the odds of conspicuous formula stains ruining it forever. Tight attire is a no-no because it can also cause some major unsightly streaking — the last thing you want. Before you tan, make sure you avoid wearing clothing that leaves indents in your skin. This type of clothing can leave annoying tan indents, too, after all.

4. Start With Fresh Skin

When you tan, you want to ensure that your skin is 100 percent fresh. This means that you don’t want to apply any moisturisers, oils, sunblocks or deodorants to it beforehand. A face that’s completely makeup-free is ideal for tanning sessions. Remember, you won’t have the chance to cleanse your face once your tanning session is through.

5. Refrain From Showering

Give your tan the chance to develop properly — and beautifully — by refraining from showering for 8 hours after your session. When you finally do shower, make sure the water is anywhere between lukewarm and cool in temperature. Avoid hot water. Give the water a chance to run totally clear. Then pat your skin dry and hydrate it deeply using your trusted moisturiser of choice. All of these things are vital for tanning success.

6. Keep Up the Moisture Levels of Your Skin

If you want to do all you can to ensure that the lovely bronze glow of your skin stays intact for as long as possible, keep your skin hydrated. Moisturised skin maintains tans for longer periods of time. Use a pH balanced moisturiser morning and night to keep your skin hydrated and wonderfully tan. If your skin is dry, your tan will fade away a lot quicker.
