As a female-founded company, we know how important it is to cheer on the women in your life every single day! On holidays like today, International Women’s Day, it is especially valuable to reflect upon the influential women in our lives and give them the recognition they deserve. This International Women’s Day, we sat down with Mine Pro Ambassadors to see what women have impacted them and their experience in the spray tan industry.

1. Ashley McKinzey, Third Coast Tans

What woman in your life inspires you and why? 

“My mentor Yvonne Olvey. She is the toughest woman I have ever met and without her, I would not be where I am today. Recently retired, she has worked and owned her own business in marketing and media for well over 30 years. Her business skills directed me on how to be the strong entrepreneur I am today. She taught me to be persistent and through that my business, Third Coast Tans, has withstood every storm over the last 14 years. Leadership skills are something you can see strong within my company, I owe that to her.” 

Is there a female that has been fundamental in growing your spray tan business? How?

“Yes, my longest-standing employee Sammy. She has been with me for almost 5 years. She is now our general manager and keeps the store running smoothly. She has become a leader who is now coaching new leaders. Sammy is a strong independent woman who can run circles around most without getting frazzled and I deeply admire that about her. I am loyal to her and she in return shows me the same respect; that is a character trait most do not possess these days and for that, I am grateful for her.”

2. Lexi Guercia, The Bronzed Bar LI

What woman in your life inspires you and why?

“My mother inspires me the most. In 2009 my father was diagnosed with ALS, for 12 years she stood by his side, without question, as his rock helping to take care of him while working a full time job and taking care of my brother and I. She is truly the strongest person I know and a real life wonder woman. Without her I would not be able to chase my dreams, without her I would have never had 12 extra years with my dad. Her strength, grace, and humility in times of adversity makes me want to work hard to be even half the woman she is.” 

Is there a female that has been fundamental in growing your spray tan business? How?

“My friend and sunless sisters Ashley and Gemma. They continue to inspire and spark creativity while being there for me when times get tough during “slow season”. I truly would not be the business woman I am without their endless advice, love, and support.”

3. Tijana Butler, Butler’s Beauty

Is there a female client that amazes you? Why?

“All of them. Why? Because spray tanning is a very daunting thing for everybody. No matter how scared or nervous they are, they still find the confidence inside them to stand in front of me practically naked and that’s not easy but yet, every single day my clients make it look so easy.”

4. Katie Carroll, The Skin Haven

Is there a female client that amazes you? Why?

“Yes I have a client that is battling stage 3 cancer and still makes it to her spray tan appointment every 2 weeks. She said being tan makes her still feel pretty and helps her feel better during her battle.”

5. Peyton Vanderhoofven, Sunscape Sunless Tanning

What woman in your life inspires you and why?

“My stepmom. My mother passed when I was young so my stepmom showed me how to be an independent business woman in the spray tanning industry. She started my company in 2007 and has been my inspiration for years!” 

Is there a female client that amazes you? Why?

“My client Miss Pat. She’s coming up to 90 years old. I have sprayed her every Wednesday for the past 10 years. The conversations with her out does any of the other clients I have. She gives the best live advice and always has a smile when she’s ready for a tan. Says it helps her not “look dead yet” haha”
