Tips for updating your beauty kit

If you spend way too much time sifting through piles of unused makeup and unorganized brushes, it is definitely time to overhaul your beauty kit. A cohesive, clutter-free and organized makeup bag not only saves you time when you are getting ready, it also eliminates the unused makeup and makes it easier to quickly locate the favorite products that you reach for and use every day. You should be updating your beauty kit every few months to give your brushes a thorough cleansing, throw out expired or unused products and take a closer look at products you need to buy or add to your existing makeup and beauty routine. Here are some important steps to take to overhaul your beauty kit.
Spread It All Out In Front Of You: Categorize
The first step to updating your beauty kit is to pour out your makeup bag and vanity kit on a wipe-clean surface. Once you have everything laid out in front of you, start sorting items in the following way: foundation, powders, lipstick, makeup brushes, eyeshadows, liners, nail polish and skin treatments. Once all of the items have been sorted and categorized, you can immediately throw out any products that you know are broken, old, expired or rarely used during your daily routine.
After you throw out the obvious junk, you need to take the time to open, smell and examine the remaining products in your bag; check for expiration dates on foundations, skincare products and sunscreen. If anything has expired or has developed a strong odor, throw these products away too. If nail polish has started to separate or change color, toss it in the trash.
Cleaning Your Brushes And Bag
There are a lot of non-abrasive cleansers on the market designed to clean your makeup brushes and sponges. Invest in a good cleaner, and soak your brushes for a good half an hour before giving them a more vigorous hand washing in the cleanser. Spread your brushes on a dry microfiber cloth to air out while you clean the interior and exterior of your makeup bag or case.
If you have a cloth makeup bag, you can throw it in the washing machine on the gentle cycle and let it air dry. Hard cases should be wiped down with a soft cloth and followed up with an antibacterial wipe. If any makeup products have exterior residue or buildup, you can wipe these down with an antibacterial cloth as well.
Replenish
Once you have thrown away old and expired products and given your makeup bag or case a thorough cleaning, take inventory of what remains. You may find that you are getting low on foundation or that your skincare routine needs to be revamped. A clean, tidy and streamlined makeup bag may invoke new courage or spark the desire to invite a new lipstick color to join the makeup routine. A clutter-free makeup bag can have the same positive impact on your mind as having a clean and tidy home.
