Everyone wants gorgeous, shiny and healthy hair. However, it seems like every magazine and beauty blog is always pushing a million different methods to achieve the hair you want.

While there are always new methods and gadgets popping up, there are some hair secrets that are tried and true. Here are the best tips you need for shiny, healthy hair.

Don’t Pull And Tug

Healthy hair is hair that is full and voluminous. The quickest way to thin out your hair is by tugging on it. Ditch the tight top-knot for a loose low ponytail or braid. When you get out of the shower, don’t brush your hair, as your hair is weaker when it’s wet and can easily be pulled out. Instead, gently comb out tangles with a wide tooth comb.

Deep Condition

Deep conditioning treatments are like facials for your hair. They replenish moisture and give your hair the hydration it craves, especially in the colder winter season. Once or twice a week, apply a rich deep conditioning treatment to dry hair, preferable a product that contains protein or keratin. Cover your hair with plastic wrap or a shower cap and let the treatment sit for an hour. Then, get in the shower and shampoo and condition as normal. When you get out, your hair will be noticeably softer and more hydrated.

Remove Build-Up

Most shampoos don’t truly remove all of the products, grease and oil from our hair. This is why once a week, you should use a clarifying shampoo, which deeply cleanses your hair and removes waxy build-up. Build-up can cause our hair to become weighed down and lifeless. Deeply cleansing your hair will help to improve its vitality and bounciness.

Use Oil Instead Of Leave-In Conditioner

For years, stylists in beauty school were taught that you can’t penetrate the hair shaft. While there is still some truth to this, your hair actually can absorb certain oils. As a post-shower treatment, ditch the leave-in conditioner and instead apply a small amount of Moroccan, coconut or Argan oil to your hair. While leave-in conditioner just sits atop the hair and weighs it down, these oils are actually absorbed and give you a shiny and hydrated finish.

If you follow these tips, you’ll improve the overall appearance of your hair and reduce damage from heat styling. Remember to always be gentle with your hair and give it the hydration it needs to look its best.
