Self-care for the beauty business owner
I don’t have the time, you say. I’ll get to that later, you say. As business owners, you tend to take care of everything and everyone, except yourself. You can make every excuse in the book, but the truth is, self-care is the best care!
You don’t have to pencil in time for self-care. Just do it on a whim! It doesn’t always have to be something expensive or extravagant. Self-care can be something as simple as going out for a smoothie in the middle of the day, just to give yourself a break.
When you take care of yourself, you can focus better. Allowing you to focus more on your business. When you are basically running off of fumes everyday, being everything to everyone, you will eventually burn out. Re-direct your focus on YOU from time to time. That work load will still be there when you arrive back from lunch, and your business will thrive because of it.
Before you begin your day, simply take a second to think about what you could do today to improve your well-being. You can think about this while getting ready for work, or when you are in the shower. You can do one simple task everyday. Before you know it, you would have developed a habit. A habit of self-care!
Another simple yet inexpensive self-care idea is to use that Fitbit that you got last year as a Christmas present and never took it out of the box. You can also use a step tracker app on your phone. Your phone is basically glued to your ear anyway. Carry it with you so that it can count your steps. I’m not saying that you have to spend your day obsessing over getting 10k steps in everyday. Just simply take the long way to your car, or take the stairs all day, instead of the elevator. Get creative.
Self-care can be as easy as opting for a hot steamy bath instead of a quick shower before bed. You will wake up more refreshed and be ready to hit the ground running all over again.
If you find a few extra minutes in the day, start a self-care journal. Go old school with a pen and notebook. You could get as creative as you would like. You can put a few self-care ideas on a dry erase board and use it as a vison board. Just anything that will remind you to take care of yourself.
I found exhaustion a lot in salon owners as well. They literally have people coming in and out of their shop all day. As well as having to manage their staff. Making customers happy, their staff, as well as their vendors. Many times putting themselves last on the totem pole. It’s so easy to put others before yourself, but if you take a few uninterrupted minutes out of your day, just for YOU, your business will thank you.
