Why Has My Tan Faded So Quickly?

Everyone wants an attractive tan regardless of the season. If you do get a nice tan, then you want to keep it for as long as you can. Unfortunately, some things you might be doing every day could be hurting your tan and turning your skin pale. You should know some of the reasons why your tan fades so quickly and the possible solutions.

Too Many Showers

Although the idea seems counterintuitive, showering for a long time actually causes your skin to become dehydrated. Long showers one or more times a day will force your skin to start peeling and revealing new skin underneath. The result is a lighter skin tone that will eventually remove your tan completely. Bathe only every few days or take very short showers.

Frequent Trips to a Sauna

Something else that can cause your tan to fade is a schedule that includes frequent trips to the sauna. The warm and humid environment in a sauna causes your pores to open wide. This starts a cycle that will generate new skin and reduce the color of your tan. The only solution is to avoid visiting the sauna on a regular basis.

Swimming In a Pool with Chlorine

Chlorine is a very powerful and often corrosive chemical. Swimming in a pool that contains chlorine is going to slowly start to remove your tan. It also dries out your skin. Avoid swimming in water that has been treated with chlorine. Alternately, swim for just a short time and moisturize your skin immediately after climbing out to preserve your tan.

Not Using Moisturiser Regularly

Caring for your skin is an important part of maintaining a rich tan for as long as possible. This means you need to apply moisturizer on a daily basis in order to keep your skin supple and hydrated. Not doing this can actually cause your skin to start to replace the tanned cells very quickly. The result will be a tan that fades much faster than normal. You should apply moisturizer each day and during times when your skin feels exceptionally dry.

Exfoliating Too Much

Exfoliating with chemicals or special tools can help your skin in some cases. It also forces your body to shed skin cells prematurely. The new skin cells that replace the exfoliated ones will not be tan. This can remove your tan fast if you exfoliate every day. You want to avoid exfoliating. If you must exfoliate, then do it as little as possible with the mildest products available.
