The Importance of Sunscreen

Whenever you head outdoors, even on partly cloudy days, it’s important for you to be wearing a quality sunscreen in order to keep your skin safe from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Wearing products that are gently massaged or applied onto the skin’s surface are designed to protect your skin’s exposure to the sun. Products designed to protect against sun exposure carry numerous benefits.

Neglecting to wear sunscreen on a daily basis will eventually catch up with you. A larger volume of wrinkles is a direct result of over-exposure to the sun. UV light is a major contributor in causing facial collagen to deteriorate. Prolonged exposure to the sun without wearing any protection also greatly increases the risk of overall sun damage, decreases the body’s natural immune response, and in addition, greatly increases the risk of skin cancer.

The most dangerous times for your skin to be exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet radiation is between the hours of 10 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon, whether or not the sun appears to be shining brightly or not. Getting into the habit of applying sunscreen to all exposed areas of the skin prior to heading outdoors is essential.

Your sun safe skin routine should include applying a sunscreen product with an SPF of 30 or more at least 15 minutes prior to sunlight exposure. Choose a formula that is easy to apply, whether it is a moisturiser, mousse, cream or lotion.

Daily exposure to sunlight can help improve a person’s mood and it’s beneficial in receiving the minimum daily requirement of Vitamin D. But a smart sun safe strategy is to wear sunscreen on all exposed areas of skin, and compliment that with wearing a hat and long sleeved shirts!
