Ensuring The Best Self-Tanning Application

Spray tanning is the best way to achieve a golden glow this winter season; however, there are some important tips to take into consideration before you get started! Every proper self-tanning application requires spending enough time preparing beforehand and afterwards, for longer lasting results.

Take the time to do a test patch beforehand on an area that isn’t visible, such as your leg or the abdomen. This will ensure that you are not allergic to the spray tanning solution, plus it will give you a chance to see whether the shade is suitable with your natural complexion. You want your tan to look as natural as possible!

Another important step in our spray tan tips is preparing the skin’s surface. The most effective way to do this is by exfoliating your skin in the shower with an oil-free scrub that won’t leave any oily residue and possibly interfere with the spray tanning solution.

Avoid any tanning lines by wearing as little as possible during the spray tanning application. Be sure to apply barrier cream to areas that you don’t want tanned by the solution, such as the cuticles around your toenails, fingernails and the palms of both hands and feet. If you must wear clothing soon after your self-tanning application, choose dark material and a loose fit to prevent the tan from streaking.

During the spraying process, simply stand still, keep your eyes closed and hold your breath to avoid breathing in any tanning solution. You usually apply the spray to one side of your body before being prompted to turn and expose the other side for an equal application. Use a tinted bronzer to even out any unexpected streaks afterwards. Rubbing the skin with fresh lemon juice can also help to soften areas that look darker than others.

It’s essential that you avoid showering for at least 8 hours after the application. Do not swim or do any exercise routines that may cause the skin to sweat. When you do shower for the first time after a tanning application, use lukewarm water rather than hot, as this will reduce the chances of your skin feeling itchy and irritated afterwards. Apply plenty of moisturiser when you’re finished and you’re ready to flaunt your gorgeous new tan!
