Autumn Skincare Tips

Autumn is a season of change. It’s time to say goodbye to hot summer days, and start preparing yourself for the cold weather of winter. Your skincare regime during any season will depend on your skin type. In general, people with oilier skin experience more problems in summer, as hot, humid weather can lead to excess sebum production and break outs. For people with dryer skin, winter is usually trickier as the cold weather and hot showers (which go hand in hand) can be drying on the skin and aggravate conditions such as dermatitis and eczema.

With less extreme temperatures, spring and autumn are generally kinder on the skin. Nevertheless, it is important to adjust your skincare regime accordingly. Here are a few tips to help you manage the transition to cooler autumn days.

  1. Apply a body moisturiser after showering. While not always necessary in summer, getting into the habit of applying a good quality body moisturiser after every shower will prepare your skin from the harsh drying effects of winter. You don’t have to spend a fortune – sorbolene cream is very effective at neutralising the effects of cold climates and is cheaply available from any pharmacy.
  2. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen. Overcast autumn days can be deceptive. Don’t be fooled by the lack of sunshine – ultraviolet rays can penetrate the clouds, meaning a mild day can still place you at risk of sunburn. Apply a good quality SPF30+ moisturiser to your face, neck and décolletage every morning. Carry a small tube of sunscreen in your handbag, so if you find yourself outdoors for extended periods, you can slip, slop, slap at short notice.
  3. Embrace a natural looking tan. Summer is not the only season for self tanning. A natural looking tan is a great accessory for autumn as well! Use natural self tanners to create a light-medium tan, depending on your skin tone. There are a number of self tanning options, from visiting a salon for a spray to DIYing in the comfort of your own home with self tanners – try the range of self tanners from Mine Tan range for flawless, natural-looking results. If you prefer subtle shades, use the Gradual Tan Extender to slowly build colour.
  4. Look after your feet. Autumn is your last chance to display your feet before they’re hidden beneath stockings and boots for winter, so make the most of it! Invest in a pedicure and choose a bright, autumny coloured nail polish to embrace the new season. Maintain your pretty feet by exfoliating and moisturising on a regular basis.
